Generation Z are the first generation of digital natives, and spend more time on their smartphones than any. But studies have thrown doubt onto the effects of frequent smartphone usage on young people’s mental health, productivity and grades.
Three students at Copenhagen Business School noticed their phones were a major distraction for them, so created Hold – an app that incentivises students to not use their phones, by awarding points for going specified lengths of time without touching their phones, and claiming free prizes with points accrued. Within 3 months of launch in Norway, a quarter of Norwegian students had downloaded the app; it has now been successfully rolled out in Sweden, Denmark and the UK.
Find out more about Hold from Norwegian founder Maths Mathisen, how it works, and how it facilitates healthy relationships between students and technology in an increasingly online world.
